What Happened
Three people were injured after six vehicles collided on the westbound Long Island Expressway near Exit 51 in Dix Hills on Monday morning, August 24, 2026, according to Suffolk County police.
Officers responded to the crash at approximately 9:45 a.m., a department spokesperson told Patch. All three injured were transported to area hospitals. Police described the injuries as minor.
News 12 Long Island also noted the crash among its LIE coverage Monday, reporting six cars were involved. No vehicle types, points of initial impact, or sequence of contact were released in the early hours after the collision.
As of Monday afternoon, Suffolk County police had not determined what caused the crash. No names, ages, or hometowns of those involved were released, and no charges had been filed.

Exit 51 on the LIE connects to Bagatelle Road in Dix Hills, a stretch of I-495 that carries heavy westbound commuter volume on weekday mornings. The westbound lanes at that exit feed traffic toward the Exit 49 interchange at Route 110 in Melville, one of the corridor’s busiest merge points.

Suffolk County police said the cause of the collision remained under investigation as of Monday afternoon.
