Incident location, Long Island
What Happened
Long Island Ducks pitcher Trevor Bauer had his black McLaren supercar t-boned by another vehicle on a Phoenix, Arizona street on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, according to a report by BroBible.
Bauer, 35 and the 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner, was driving the speed limit in a 45-mph zone when another driver struck him, causing the McLaren to spin out of control. The car came to rest on a sidewalk, with debris strewn across the road and a nearby yard. Bauer was photographed at the scene conversing with police officers while standing beside the heavily damaged vehicle. Per BroBible, TMZ reported that no one was seriously injured in the collision. The cause of the crash remains unknown, though a source close to Bauer told TMZ he was not at fault.
Bauer was in Arizona for a specific reason: the Long Island Ducks had placed him on the injured list this past Monday due to back spasms, and he had traveled to Phoenix for treatment. His crash, therefore, interrupted an already-interrupted return to the mound.
The Long Island Ducks organization responded swiftly. “We are aware Trevor Bauer was in a car accident Wednesday afternoon,” Ducks president Michael Pfaff said in a statement, as reported by BroBible. “We have communicated with Trevor and his camp and are thankful to hear he is ok. He will continue his rehabilitation and there remains no timeline for his return.”
Wednesday’s crash marks the second time one of Bauer’s McLaren supercars has been seriously damaged. In November 2019, a semi-truck lost a tire that landed on and totaled his McLaren 650S while it was parked at a neighborhood dealership. At the time, Bauer posted on X: “Yesterday, if you told me a semi truck would total my McLaren, I would’ve believed you. If you told me it would happen like THIS? I would’ve said you’re out of your mind.”
Location & Road Context
The crash occurred on a public street in Phoenix, Arizona, in a marked 45-mph zone. While this incident took place well outside Long Island, it directly impacts the Long Island Ducks and their roster, as Bauer has been one of the Atlantic League club’s most prominent players this season. The Ducks are based in Central Islip, New York.
Broader Impact
Before landing on the injured list, Bauer had been pitching at a high level for the Ducks, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.43 ERA. His season highlights included a seven-inning no-hitter against Lancaster and a 15-strikeout performance against Gastonia — a new single-game team record. In his final start before the injury, however, he allowed five runs, eight hits, and two walks over five innings. With the back spasms already pushing back his timeline, and now a car accident added to the equation, the Ducks have offered no target date for his return.
