May 22, 2026. Suffolk County police say they’ve uncovered a brothel operating out of a residential home on Commack Road in Dix Hills — one of Long Island’s most affluent neighborhoods. Two women have been charged. A preschool sign was still visible on the front of the property.
What Police Found
The Suffolk County Human Trafficking Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at 1005 Commack Road in Dix Hills after receiving community complaints about suspicious activity at the residence.
Detectives arrested two women:
| Name | Age | Residence | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maria Marin-Barco | 31 | Flushing, Queens | Prostitution |
| Andreina Campos-Herrera | 33 | Dix Hills | Prostitution |
Police say the women advertised their services online. Both were issued desk appearance tickets and will be arraigned at a later date.
During the search, detectives seized cash and electronic devices from the home.
The Preschool Sign
One detail that caught the attention of News 12’s reporting crew: a Hope Enrichment Preschool sign was still visible in front of the property.
Suffolk County Police say investigators confirmed there was no evidence that a daycare was currently operating at the location. It’s unclear when the preschool ceased operations or why the signage remained.
The juxtaposition — a home advertising childcare services on the outside while allegedly operating a brothel on the inside — is certain to alarm parents in the Dix Hills community.
Code Enforcement Steps In
The Town of Huntington’s Code Enforcement division and fire marshal also responded to the scene and issued several summonses to the homeowner. The nature of the code violations has not been disclosed, but residential properties operating commercial services — whether a daycare or a brothel — are subject to zoning enforcement in the Town of Huntington.
The Neighborhood
Dix Hills is a hamlet in the Town of Huntington with a median household income exceeding $150,000, making it one of the wealthiest communities in Suffolk County. Commack Road is a primary thoroughfare connecting Dix Hills to Commack and the Northern State Parkway.
The presence of an alleged brothel in this area — particularly one that drew enough activity to generate community complaints — is unusual for a neighborhood that typically appears in headlines for school rankings and real estate prices.
