Members of the West Islip Fire Department carried out the water rescue, removing the sole victim from the water, West Islip Fire Department First Assistant Chief Michael Delgado told Newsday. The man, whose identity officials had not released as of late Friday night, was subsequently transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip. His condition was not immediately available.
Also on scene were members of the Bay Shore Brightwaters ambulance company, New York State Police, and State Park Police. By 10 p.m. — roughly an hour and a half after the initial call — approximately a dozen first responders still remained at the dock, where crews were observed removing ladders and other rescue equipment from the scene.
