What Happened
Dario Marsalek, 19, of Astoria, Queens, was killed Sunday afternoon after his northbound motorcycle struck a guardrail on the Wantagh State Parkway at Goose Creek Bridge, roughly one mile north of the Jones Beach water tower. New York State Police confirmed the crash time at approximately 5:05 p.m. on August 23, 2026.
According to News 12 Long Island, troopers said Marsalek was traveling northbound when the motorcycle hit the guardrail. The impact ejected both Marsalek and his passenger from the bike. Marsalek landed on the roadway surface; his passenger came down on the grassy area along the right shoulder.
Emergency responders transported Marsalek to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger — whose name had not been released as of Sunday night — was in critical condition, News 12 Long Island reported. The specific hospital was not identified in the New York State Police report or in News 12’s coverage filed at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
The crash forced the shutdown of all northbound lanes on the parkway at the crash site. The lanes reopened just before 9 p.m., leaving them closed for approximately three hours and 55 minutes during a Sunday evening travel period.
