What Happened
Wayne Conforti was struck and killed by a westbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Flanders Road near the intersection of Oak Avenue early Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, according to police.
Officers responded to the scene and found Conforti lying in the roadway near the Oak Avenue intersection, suffering from serious physical injuries, authorities said. Responding units rushed him to Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was pronounced dead there.
Investigators determined the Tacoma driver was heading westbound on Flanders Road when the truck passed through the Oak Avenue intersection and struck Conforti, according to Daily Voice, which first reported the fatality Sunday morning. The precise time of the crash was not released in initial reports. The Daily Voice account, published Aug. 31 at 10:25 a.m., described Conforti as crossing the street when the collision occurred.
The Tacoma driver was not injured, police said. Authorities impounded the pickup for a safety check, a standard procedure in pedestrian fatality investigations on Long Island.
According to Daily Voice, friends and family posted condolences online after news of Conforti’s death spread. One person wrote: “Rest in peace Wayne Conforti my best friend my brother.” Police have not released Conforti’s age or town of residence.
