What Happened
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a westbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Flanders Road near the intersection of Oak Avenue early Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, according to police.
Officers responded to the scene and found the victim lying in the roadway near the Oak Avenue intersection, suffering from serious physical injuries, authorities said. Responding units rushed the victim to Peconic Bay Medical Center. The victim was pronounced dead there.
Investigators determined the Tacoma driver was heading westbound on Flanders Road when the truck passed through the Oak Avenue intersection and struck the pedestrian, according to Daily Voice, which first reported the fatality Sunday morning. The precise time of the crash was not released in initial reports. The Daily Voice account, published Aug. 31 at 10:25 a.m., described the pedestrian as crossing the street when the collision occurred.
The Tacoma driver was not injured, police said. Authorities impounded the pickup for a safety check, a standard procedure in pedestrian fatality investigations on Long Island.
According to Daily Voice, friends and family posted condolences online after news of the death spread. Police have not released the victim’s age or town of residence.
