What Happened
A 42-year-old Port Jefferson Station resident was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Nesconset Highway in Centereach early Saturday morning, according to Patch. The crash was reported at approximately 12:30 a.m. on August 1, 2026.
The rider was operating a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Nesconset Highway, east of Nicolls Road, when he lost control of the bike and struck the center divider of the roadway, Patch reports. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Emergency responders transported the motorcyclist to Stony Brook University Hospital following the collision. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Suffolk County Police.
The 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle was impounded by authorities for a safety check, a standard procedure in fatal crash investigations. Suffolk County Police detectives are actively seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the moments leading up to it.

The crash took place on Nesconset Highway east of its intersection with Nicolls Road in Centereach, a heavily traveled stretch of roadway in central Suffolk County. Nesconset Highway — also designated as Route 347 — is a major east-west arterial road that sees high volumes of commuter and commercial traffic. The center divider struck by the rider is a fixed concrete or curbed median common to this section of the highway.

Suffolk County Police have opened a formal investigation into the crash. The impoundment of the 2026 Kawasaki for a safety check suggests investigators are examining whether any mechanical issue with the motorcycle may have contributed to the rider losing control, though no cause of the crash has been publicly stated at this time.
