What Happened
A 17-year-old Mount Sinai resident was struck by a car while crossing a roadway in Mount Sinai early Thursday morning, Aug. 20, 2026, Suffolk County Police said. The teen was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.
According to Daily Voice, an 18-year-old Miller Place resident was driving a 2020 Acura westbound in the left lane when his vehicle struck the pedestrian. The crash occurred after midnight. The 18-year-old was not injured.
Daily Voice reported the collision at 1:23 p.m. Thursday as an active investigation. Suffolk County Police confirmed the teen victim lives in Mount Sinai and that the driver lives in Miller Place, two communities on the North Shore of Suffolk County roughly two miles apart.
Suffolk County Police impounded the 2020 Acura following the crash for a safety check, Daily Voice reported. No charges had been announced as of Thursday afternoon.

Mount Sinai sits on the North Shore of Suffolk County along the Route 25A corridor, a heavily traveled two-lane road connecting North Shore communities from Port Jefferson to Stony Brook. Suffolk County Police impounded the 2020 Acura for a safety check, a standard procedure that can examine mechanical condition, event data recorder output, and other factors relevant to determining crash cause. No charges had been filed against the 18-year-old Miller Place driver as of the afternoon of Aug. 20, according to Daily Voice. The investigation was continuing.
