A multi-vehicle crash at West 204th Street and Sherman Avenue in the Inwood section of Upper Manhattan left three people hospitalized Thursday morning after a Corvette driver struck a Mercedes-Benz SUV, a pedestrian, and a building in a chain-reaction wreck, according to FOX 5 New York. NYPD responded to the intersection shortly after 6:30 a.m.
A man driving a Corvette at a high rate of speed collided with a Mercedes-Benz at the West 204th Street and Sherman Avenue intersection, police said. The impact sent the Mercedes-Benz into a parked car and a moped. The Corvette, after striking the Mercedes, veered onto the sidewalk and hit a 34-year-old pedestrian before crashing into a building.
Surveillance footage obtained by FOX 5 New York shows the pedestrian walking on the sidewalk at the moment the Corvette clipped him and launched him into the air. FOX 5 NY’s Jessica Formoso reported on the footage. The video captures the sequence from initial impact through the pedestrian strike.
The Corvette’s driver and passenger were both taken to a hospital, as was the 34-year-old pedestrian. All three were in stable condition, officials said. The identities of the pedestrian, the Corvette passenger, and the Mercedes-Benz driver were not immediately released. The Mercedes-Benz driver left the scene after the collision, NYPD confirmed.
NYPD arrested Eric Torres, 27, in connection with the crash. Torres faced multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, police said. The identities of the other individuals injured were not immediately known as of Thursday morning, per FOX 5 New York.
