What Happened
Two people died and a third was seriously hurt in three crashes across Long Island on Wednesday night, August 19, 2026, according to Newsday. Nassau County police handled one fatal crash; Suffolk County police responded to the other two.
The first crash occurred at about 7:20 p.m. near the intersection of Dosoris Way and Elliot Place in Glen Cove. Nassau County police said David Anthony De Jesus, 23, of Roslyn was operating an e-scooter when he collided with a 2023 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 19-year-old woman. De Jesus was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Jeep driver was not injured.
Nassau County police did not release the Jeep driver’s identity. No charges have been filed, and the investigation continues, police said.
About two hours later, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Vincent McKie, 45, of Bay Shore was riding a Suzuki DRZ dirt bike southbound on Brentwood Road in Bay Shore when he struck the right rear of a 2025 Acura RDX that was stopped in traffic, according to Newsday. McKie was thrown from the dirt bike on impact. He was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was treated for what police described as serious injuries. The 26-year-old Acura driver was not hurt in the collision.
Suffolk County police impounded both vehicles for safety checks. No charges have been filed in connection with that crash.
The third crash proved fatal. At about 11:25 p.m., Matthew Adcock, 54, of Huntington was driving a 2016 Ford Edge northbound on Dix Hills Road, just south of Hren Court in Dix Hills, when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a large fence and hedge, Suffolk County police said. Adcock was transported to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Suffolk County police detectives said Thursday they believe Adcock experienced a medical episode that led to the crash. That statement was released after detectives reviewed the circumstances of the single-vehicle collision.

Nassau County police said the investigation into De Jesus’s death at Dosoris Way and Elliot Place remains open as of Thursday morning, August 20. No charges have been filed against the Jeep driver. Police did not specify which unit is handling the investigation.
In Suffolk County, no charges have been filed in the Bay Shore dirt bike crash either. Both the Suzuki DRZ and the 2025 Acura RDX were impounded for safety inspections, per standard procedure after a crash causing serious injury. For the Dix Hills fatality, Suffolk County police have classified the crash as likely medical in nature.
