What Happened
A passenger in a westbound Toyota SUV was seriously injured at 9:46 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2026, when a driver made an illegal left turn at the intersection of Route 347 and Route 111 in Hauppauge, touching off a three-vehicle chain collision, according to Hauppauge, NY Patch.
Marta Pineda, 45, of Brentwood, was driving a 2008 Acura SUV east on Route 347 when she attempted to make an illegal left turn north onto Route 111, Suffolk County police said. The Acura struck a 2019 Toyota SUV traveling west in the left lane of Route 347. The impact pushed the Toyota into a 2020 Hyundai sedan traveling west to its right.
Nancy Garcia, 68, of Lake Grove, was a passenger in the Toyota. She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, per Patch. The Toyota’s driver, Raymond Garcia, 68, also of Lake Grove, went to the same hospital with injuries police described as not life-threatening.
Pineda was also taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, with minor injuries. Matthew Wu, 29, of Lake Grove, who was driving the Hyundai, was not injured. All three vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
Pineda received several summonses at the scene, including one for an improper turn, according to Suffolk County police. The Fourth Squad is the lead investigative unit on the case.

The crash occurred at the signalized intersection of Route 347 and Route 111 in Hauppauge, a heavily traveled commercial corridor in central Suffolk County. Pineda was issued multiple summonses at the scene; the improper turn charge corresponds to the illegal left turn maneuver police identified as the initiating act.
