What Happened
A three-vehicle crash at Route 347 and Route 111 in Hauppauge sent three people to Stony Brook University Hospital on the morning of September 5, 2026, after a Brentwood driver allegedly made an illegal left turn into oncoming westbound traffic. Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating, according to Long Island Life & Politics.
Marta Pineda, 45, of Brentwood, was driving a 2008 Acura SUV eastbound on Route 347 at 9:46 a.m. when she allegedly attempted a left turn northbound onto Route 111. The Acura struck a 2019 Toyota SUV traveling westbound in the left lane of Route 347. The force of that impact pushed the Toyota into a 2020 Hyundai sedan traveling westbound to its right.
The passenger in the Toyota, Nancy Garcia, 68, of Lake Grove, took the most severe blow. She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for serious injuries. Her husband, Raymond Garcia, 68, also of Lake Grove and the Toyota’s driver, was transported to the same hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Pineda was taken to Stony Brook as well, for minor injuries.
Matthew Wu, 29, of Lake Grove, the driver of the Hyundai struck in the chain reaction, was not injured. All three vehicles were impounded after the crash for a safety check, as reported by Long Island Life & Politics.

Investigation & Legal Proceedings
Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives issued Pineda several summonses following the crash, including one for improper turn. The Fourth Squad is asking anyone with information on the crash to contact detectives at 631-854-8452.
No arrests were announced as of the date of publication. The vehicle impoundments for safety checks are standard procedure in multi-injury crashes and may inform the ongoing Fourth Squad investigation.
