What Happened
Suffolk County Police, acting on a community complaint, arrested two people during a late-night inspection at Galeanos Deli, 58 Albany Ave., Amityville, according to a Suffolk County Police Department press release. First Precinct Crime Unit officers conducted the operation in conjunction with the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA), the Village of Amityville Fire Marshal, and the Village of Amityville Building Inspector at approximately 10:15 p.m.
The Arrests
Edwin Galeano Arguenta, 36, of Brentwood, an employee of the deli, was charged with Promoting Gambling 2nd Degree and Possession of a Gambling Device. He was issued a Field Appearance Ticket and was scheduled to be arraigned on October 8, SCPD said.
Marvin Amaya, 45, of Copiague, a patron at the deli, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and was found to have an active bench warrant, according to police. Amaya was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 19, SCPD said.
A criminal charge is an accusation. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Violations
The Village of Amityville Fire Marshals and Building Inspector issued nine combined building, fire, and code violations to the deli manager, SCPD reported. The New York State Liquor Authority issued one violation and said it is conducting a further investigation into the business.
