What Happened
Nassau County Police said skeletal human remains were located in a wooded area of Plandome Pond Park at 192 Lindberg Street in Manhasset at 5:44 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The Homicide Squad is investigating the discovery as an undetermined death.
The Daily Voice reported that police did not immediately release any information about the identity of the person, how long the remains may have been at the park, or the circumstances surrounding the death.
News 12 Long Island reported that Plandome Heights Mayor Ken Riscica told the outlet the case involves a missing person and that a juvenile runner in the back of the park by the tracks discovered the remains; Nassau County police had not confirmed those details as of the afternoon of October 2. The mayor said the discovery “does not represent something that residents should be concerned about.” News 12 also reported that Plandome Pond Park is owned by the Town of North Hempstead, and that North Hempstead Public Safety officers were standing guard at all three park entrances along North Bourndale Road, South Bourndale Road, and Webster Avenue. The Town of North Hempstead stated the park would remain closed until the investigation is concluded.
