What Happened
A 2027 Kia driven by a 64-year-old woman struck the wall of a CVS store at 1829 Grand Avenue in Baldwin just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Newsday reported, citing Nassau County police. The impact seriously damaged the building.
The driver’s 68-year-old male passenger was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both occupants suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment, Nassau County police said. No other injuries were reported.
News 12 Long Island confirmed officers found the 2027 Kia had collided with the outer wall of the Grand Avenue building upon arrival. Nassau County police did not release the names of the driver or passenger.
The Town of Hempstead Building Department responded and inspected the structure. It determined the building was structurally unsafe. Yellow police tape cordoned off the CVS through Thursday morning, according to Newsday.
As of Thursday morning, there was no answer to a phone call placed to the CVS location, and no timeline for reopening had been announced, Newsday reported.
