What Happened
A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 112 and East Woodside Avenue in East Patchogue sent one driver running from the scene on foot at around 6:15 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, according to Suffolk County Police. No injuries were reported.
A vehicle heading southbound on Route 112 was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on East Woodside Avenue, police told Patch. The driver of the eastbound vehicle — the one that initiated the impact — abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot immediately after the collision. Police did not release the name, age, or description of that driver in their initial statement.
The driver of the southbound Route 112 vehicle remained at the scene. No injuries were reported to either driver, according to police.
Suffolk County Police confirmed the incident and said the 5th Precinct Crime Section is handling the investigation.

Leaving the scene of a property-damage accident without reporting is a misdemeanor under New York VTL § 600(1); leaving the scene of an injury accident carries felony exposure under VTL § 600(2), though police have not specified which section applies pending the investigation’s outcome.
