What Happened
A 30-year-old Middle Island man was seriously injured Sunday night after his 2026 Nissan Rogue crossed into oncoming traffic on Middle Country Road, left the roadway, and slammed into a telephone pole, according to Long Island Life & Politics, which first reported the incident.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. on September 13, 2026, in front of 800 Middle Country Road in Middle Island. The driver was traveling eastbound when the Rogue crossed into the westbound lanes. The vehicle then departed the roadway entirely and hit the pole.
Suffolk County Police transported him to Stony Brook University Hospital. His injuries were described as serious but non-life-threatening, per Long Island Life & Politics. No other vehicles or pedestrians were reported involved.
The 2026 Nissan Rogue was impounded following the crash for a safety check. The cause of the lane departure had not been publicly disclosed as of the time of reporting.
Location & Road Context
Middle Country Road at the 800 block runs through a commercial and residential stretch of Middle Island in the Town of Brookhaven. The road carries two-way traffic and is a primary surface route connecting communities between Coram and Yaphank. A crossover into oncoming lanes at that point left little margin before the roadside.
Middle Island has seen multiple serious crashes in recent weeks. A fatal wrong-way crash killed a Middle Island man in Rocky Point on September 9, and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office was still investigating a fatal DWI crash in Middle Island as of September 1.
Investigation & Legal Proceedings
Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating the crash. No charges had been announced as of the morning of September 14, 2026, according to Long Island Life & Politics. The safety check impound of the Rogue is standard procedure in serious single-vehicle crashes and may inform investigators about mechanical factors.
