What Happened
Nassau County Police report that Michael Torres, 34, described as undomiciled, was arrested Sunday, September 20, 2026, at approximately 10:35 p.m. following a burglary at Rapid 2 Laundromat, 2295 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, according to a Nassau County Police Department announcement.
Third Precinct officers responding to a reported disturbance determined that Torres had forcibly pushed a 34-year-old male employee to gain entry to an employees-only vestibule, then removed two bottles of soap and attempted to leave, police said. Officers took Torres into custody without incident at the scene.
Torres was transported by Nassau County Police Department ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation. While there, police say he became violent and combative — kicking and flailing his arms and legs — injuring two officers. Both officers were treated at the scene.
Torres is charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree and two counts of Assault in the 2nd Degree. A charge is not a conviction. The investigation is described as ongoing.
