Nassau County Police Homicide Squad detectives report that a serious crash on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at approximately 8:52 p.m. left one man critically injured and resulted in a DWI arrest. (Nassau County Police Department via Pdcn)
According to detectives, Guisela Garay, 24, of Franklin Square, was driving a 2018 Toyota northbound on Franklin Avenue when she struck a 2018 BMW that was turning westbound near Cloud Avenue. The male driver of the BMW, 39, suffered trauma to his legs and body, was transported to an area hospital, and is listed in critical condition.
Detectives determined Garay was intoxicated. She was arrested without incident. Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks.
Garay is charged with DWI, Vehicular Assault 1st Degree, Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree. A charge is not a conviction. Police said arraignment was scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2026, at First District Court in Hempstead.
