What Happened
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash on Rocky Point Yaphank Road in Rocky Point, according to Long Island Life & Politics.
The two sources that covered this crash disagree on a key detail, and neither the incident date nor which driver crossed into the opposing lane has been settled by an official Suffolk County Police press release. Long Island Life & Politics reported the crash occurred on October 5 at approximately 1:30 p.m., with the Jeep driver going southbound when the vehicle veered into the northbound lane and struck a 2020 Lexus. TBR News Media reported the crash occurred on September 9 at approximately 1:30 p.m., and stated that it was the Lexus driver — traveling northbound — who veered into the southbound lane, striking the front driver side of the Jeep.
On the points both outlets agree: a 44-year-old Middle Island man driving a 2020 Lexus was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 45-year-old Port Jefferson man driving a 2020 Jeep was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check.
