What Happened

Nassau County Police Second Squad detectives report the arrest of Richard Francisco Perozo Rodriguez, 28, of 34 Birch Street, Wyandanch, on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 9:05 a.m., in connection with an attempted elder scam in Muttontown.

According to detectives, a 79-year-old woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer, who told her that her daughter had been arrested and needed cash for bail. The victim later recognized the call as a scam and notified police.

Investigators say Rodriguez was taken into custody as he attempted to collect the payment from the victim. He is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree.

Nassau County Police indicated that arraignment was scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
