What Happened
According to the Nassau County Police Department’s First Squad, a shooting occurred at a Baldwin residence on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at approximately 11:50 PM. (NCPD press release)
Officers responded to a report of shots fired. Detectives determined that a male suspect had been in a verbal argument with a 25-year-old male outside the home. The argument escalated, and the suspect forced his way through the victim’s front door. Once inside, the suspect brandished and discharged a firearm, grazing the leg of a 28-year-old woman and striking and damaging a kitchen stove. The suspect then fled in a vehicle driven by a female companion.
The injured woman was transported to a local hospital, where she is listed in stable condition, according to the NCPD.
Arrests
Following an investigation conducted with the assistance of the Suffolk County Police Department, the vehicle and its occupants were located in Suffolk County. Alfredo Gonzalez, 43, and Donna Perez, 47, both of Baldwin, were arrested without incident.
The NCPD reports that Gonzalez is charged with Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Attempted Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Perez is charged with Hindering Prosecution 2nd Degree. All charges are allegations; neither defendant has been convicted.
The NCPD stated that both defendants were scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
